ABOUT THE ARTIST
David Mensing grew up in Iowa, surrounded by wide prairies and carefully groomed cornfields. His love of wild places was cultivated by family camping, backpacking, and biking trips. When he moved to The West as a young man, he was captivated by its raw beauty.

Mensing's ambition is to know and share that beauty through his work. Not content just to enjoy natural places, Dave seeks to capture and share the experience as a work of art. He has found that striving to contain any moment brings wonderful assurance that the experience is too profound to ever really be contained.

INSPIRATION FOR MENU
David's Artistic Journey

Julia Rickards, our owner and head chef, worked closely with David and his family to learn about his favorite foods, most powerful influences, and his path towards becoming an artist. Within this collaboration came six beautifully curated courses that will be offered for the evening.

INSPIRATION FOR NEW WORKS
"Eminently Capable"

David has been emphasizing the relationship between color and light, and he has found that it is inadequate to simply exploit or saturate colors to make an exciting composition. He has been more focused on using neutral colors to achieve a sense of light.

As always, he is inspired by creation itself. He seeks to capture the experience of a beautiful moment, knowing that in the experience of natural places there is far more than just enjoyment or wonder. In creation, one can sense eternal capability and eminent character.
